Surgical Cancer Removal

Approximately 25% of the population will develop skin cancer, mainly on areas of the face such as the nose and forehead, due to sun exposure.
The most common types of cancer are Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC), Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC), and Melanoma (M). BCC is the most frequent and is treated with surgical removal, with a cure rate above 95%.

Early diagnosis and removal of skin cancer are crucial for your health, to avoid complications during excision and to safeguard both the health and appearance of the patient.

Skin Cancer Management

The most effective method for removing skin cancer is surgery, which is followed by a biopsy to confirm complete excision of the cancerous tissue.

The procedure includes three basic stages:
• Anesthesia (local or general)
• Tumor excision with clear, healthy margins
• Reconstruction, which may involve simple suturing, grafting, or flaps from nearby or remote areas

Recovery

After the carcinoma is removed, plastic reconstruction is performed to improve the aesthetic appearance. During recovery, the area may show redness, pain, and fluid discharge.

The patient must strictly follow medical instructions regarding cleansing, medication, protection from trauma, and movement restriction. Sun exposure should also be avoided.

Recovery may take from a few weeks to several months. In some cases, a second procedure may be needed to improve the scar.
